Anne M. Smith collection, 1961-1965.

Summary: Collection consists of the research materials of Anne M. Smith, 1961-1965. Included are: copies of typescript interviews with members of various Native American tribes; professional correspondence; and various other materials. The bulk of the collection consists of interviews with Native Americans that discuss the economic and social conditions among the Native Americans in New Mexico and education in Native American society. Other interviews, with public health nurses and patients, pertain to disease treatment. Miscellaneous materials include: papers from the Northern Rio Grande Resource Conservation and Development Project, 1964; a proposed alcoholism study in Gallup, New Mexico; patient case histories, articles that concern the treatment of diseases, in particular tuberculosis; and various other related topics. Also included is a manuscript by Alfonso Ortiz concerning the pueblos of New Mexico.
